3 rd General Assembly of the African Seismological Commission

The Asian Seismological Commission (ASC) was established in 1996 as a regional scientific organization affiliated to International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (IASPEI). Since 1996, ASC has organized several general assemblies in different Asian countries.
The African Seismological Commission (AfSC) is a scientific organisation launched in 2014 by the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (IASPEI) as a regional commission of IASPEI. The AfSC mission is to promote the science of Seismology within the scientific community of the African countries, by promoting research studies, to extend and enhance scientific co-operation and to train young scientists.
The joint general assembly will be held close to the natural boundary between Asia and Africa. Where, it will be held in the Red Sea Governorate, in hybrid (Online / physical) mode, since Egypt is applying the COVID-19’s prevention measures. However, physical participation is highly recommended. The most important scope of such event is maximizing the role of the ASC as a catalyst and coordinator for earthquake hazard assessment and risk management strategy developed and implemented in the Asia-Pacific region for the prevention of earthquake hazards impact on population, vital infrastructure and property.
Host: The joint general assembly is hosted by the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), Cairo, Egypt. NRIAG has very long history of Astronomical and Geophysical observation since it was established on the year 1839 as a Royal observatory at Bollak. In 1903 NRIAG has been moved to the current location at Helwan, making it the oldest research institute in North Africa.
